► Consecutive interpreting

Consecutive interpreting is a method of interpreting in which the interpreter conveys the message of the speaker during pauses in their speech. The speaker and interpreter take it in turns to speak. One advantage of this method of interpreting is that it does not require any special equipment, although the speaker’s voice must be perfectly intelligible for the interpreter to satisfactorily carry out their role. Professional interpreters can provide a clear and detailed interpretation of speeches up to 8 minutes-long. You can find more information about consecutive interpreting on the website for Lithuanian Association of Conference Interpreters.

► Simultaneous interpreting

Simultaneous interpreting is a method of interpreting in which the interpreter conveys the message of the speaker almost at the same time as they speak (there is usually a delay of up to two sentences). This method of interpreting requires special soundproof booths and a team of two to three interpreters. The audience or delegates can hear the simultaneous interpretation through headphones. You can find more information about simultaneous interpreting on the website for Lithuanian Association of Conference Interpreters. You can read more about the technical specifications and requirements here.
